This notice explains what personal information Watchetts Construction Ltd collects, why we use it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it.

1. Who we are

Watchetts Construction Ltd is a building contractor registered in England and Wales, company number 16136250, VAT number 496175253, based in Camberley, Surrey, GU15.

We are the data controller for the personal information described in this notice, which means we decide why and how it is used. If you have a question about this notice or about your information, contact us using the details in the panel on this page.

2. The information we collect

When you send an enquiry through our contact form, you give us:

  • your name;
  • your email address and phone number;
  • the postcode or area your property is in;
  • the type of property and the services you are interested in;
  • anything else you choose to write in the message box.

If you contact us by phone, email or post instead, we collect whatever you give us in that message. If you go on to become a customer, we also collect the information we need to quote for, carry out and invoice the work, such as the site address and any access arrangements.

Our website provider also records technical information automatically, including the IP address of the device you are browsing from, in order to deliver the site and keep it secure.

Please do not send us health information, or any other sensitive personal detail, unless it is genuinely relevant to the work you are asking us about.

3. Why we use it, and our lawful basis

Data protection law requires us to have a lawful basis for using your information. Ours are set out below.

  • To answer your enquiry and quote for work. Our basis is that the processing is necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract.
  • To carry out work we have agreed to do, including arranging site visits, ordering materials and dealing with subcontractors. Our basis is performance of our contract with you.
  • To keep our accounting records and meet our tax obligations. Our basis is compliance with a legal obligation.
  • To keep records of completed jobs, handle complaints, defend claims and keep our site secure. Our basis is our legitimate interests in running and protecting the business. We have considered your interests and rights, and we use the minimum information needed for these purposes.

We do not use your information to make automated decisions about you, and we do not profile you. We do not sell your information to anyone.

4. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it.

  • Enquiries that do not lead to work are deleted 12 months after our last contact with you.
  • Customer and job records are kept for six years after the end of the work, which is the period we are required to keep business and tax records for and the period in which a claim about the work could be brought against us.
  • Records relating to structural or building safety matters may be kept for longer where we are required to do so.

5. Who we share it with

We share personal information only where we need to, and only with:

  • the suppliers who host our website and run our email, who process information on our instructions and cannot use it for their own purposes;
  • subcontractors and tradespeople working on your project, where they need your details to carry out the work;
  • our accountants, insurers and professional advisers;
  • HMRC, regulators, building control and other authorities where the law requires it.

6. Where your information is stored

Your information is stored on servers in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area. Where a supplier we use needs to transfer information outside those areas, we rely on the safeguards allowed under UK data protection law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum. You can ask us for details of the safeguards that apply.

7. Cookies and tracking

This website sets no cookies. It runs no analytics, no advertising tags and no third-party tracking scripts, so there is nothing for you to accept or reject. If that changes, we will update this notice and ask for your consent first where the law requires it.

8. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • have inaccurate information corrected;
  • ask us to delete information where we no longer have a reason to keep it;
  • ask us to restrict how we use your information while a concern is resolved;
  • ask us to transfer information you gave us to another organisation, where the processing is based on your consent or on a contract and is carried out automatically.

You also have the right to object to our use of your information where we rely on our legitimate interests. If you object, we will stop unless we can show compelling grounds to continue.

9. How to complain

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator for data protection.
